Sunday 21st February: Flowers in the Desert. Lent 1.  
Self-reflection in Lent can lead to greater understanding. For Jesus a glorious baptism was followed by expulsion in the wilderness, gathering strength for his Ministry. Rev Lionel Kevis is inspired by Theologian, Tom Wright,  who suggests the pandemic is a time to learn and await better things.

Wednesday 17th February: the Ash Wednesday tradition
Rev Lionel Kevis demonstrates the burning of palm crosses to make
ash crosses to mark the start of lent: traditionally a time of self-denial 
but now more a time for positive actions of kindness and bringing joy to others.

The new church path is officially opened by former Churchwarden and Leigh Parish Council Chairman Colin Stratton-Brown. 

The church has reopened for private prayer. All services will 
be online until it is safe to meet.

Ash Wednesday - 17th February

The Vicar will privately prepare ashes on the morning of Ash Wednesday and, from 10am, a limited number of stations of ash will be available throughout the church to allow those attending for private prayer to self-administer, should they wish to do so. Sanitiser and wipes will be available and the normal rules of social distancing will be in force.

A mini-library is available during lockdown in the church. 

St Mary's Church is supporting the food bank run by St John's Church, Hildenborough. Collection box in the porch.
