Some ups and downs

Karen has decided to step down from Totzone

After almost 6 years of welcoming parents and carers along to the Genner rooms with their pre-school aged children, Totzone has closed its doors.  Numbers attending have been very varied over the years but the last six months has seen a big decline in numbers with a number of weeks with no-one attending.  I have enjoyed running Totzone for the past 4 years but now feel that it is time for me to step down and allow another parent/carer to take up the reins should the need for the group continue.  Any parent or carer who is interested in starting up Totzone again either now or in the future should contact David Bennie at

Thank you to everyone who has supported me while running Totzone.

Karen Korvin

I have thanked Karen for all her dedication and loyalty over those 6 years in running and helping with Totzone. Karen is supporting this ministry in many other ways ie Family Craftzone, Alpha Course support, Home Group hosting at her house.

I think that Totzone will hopefully re launch in the New Year.

Family Craftzonelaunched on 1st October - 9.15-11.15am at the Jessica Hall. This is a new initiative hoping to attract young children and their parents once a month to share stories from the bible, do crafts together and build up relationships over a cuppa and a biscuit. The attendance has been small but encouraging and will take a while to get a ‘name’.

Thank you to Karen and Gill Bennie for their support and assistance in setting this up.

After discussion with Lee Bransby and Peter Penn it has been agreed that I stay on as AGSL to assist Peter Penn in his role. Peter, as you may know, has not been well and welcomed my offer of assistance.

We’re Off

The Gambian Projects Overseas Charity (GPO) sets off this Thursday (16th) with a group of 10 (inc myself, Gill) on the 07.55am flight with Thomas Cook to The Gambia. The projects inc. adding electricity supply to the Solar Unit installed in March and teaching activities and training lead by Gill Bennie and Susan Hyde. We also have a huge amount of resources to distribute to hospitals, clinics and schools.

Several our latest Alpha Home Group are coming with us for the 1st time. Including, John and Maxine Waghorn and Allison Vicary. David & Wendy Sellicks daughter, Laura, also joins us for the first time. We are all very excited as the Charity takes a new pathway in taking out a working group in November. The main group is there for a week, with 4 staying on for the 2ndweek and Gill and I returning on the 14thDecember.

Our next project in 2018 leaves for Gambia on 22ndFebruary for 2 weeks. This will involve building a store room and new cooking area at Sinchu Balia Nursery School. We have 5 signed up for this project and are happy for others to come along too, if you would like to come or know anyone interested, let me know please.

Whilst I am away, I have organised for cover for all the various activities I am involved with, in particular.

Craftzone – Carla Craske and Steph Rutherford with Lionel and Andrew assisting.

I have provided a full program with Crafts organised.

Family Services – 26this Baptism – Roy is leading worship (I have printed off music sheets for songs)

10thDecember – I have produced a service booklet – Roy leads worship.

School Assemblies – Lionel

Home Groups (Tuesday & Wednesday) leaders appointed

On return on 14thDec. I shall hit the floor running with Christingle on 17th(I have written this), 2 Home Groups Christmas gatherings and, of course, The Christmas Eve Carol Services. I have prepared these prior to leaving, so will only need tweaking on return.

I would like to minute my appreciation of the PCCs support in allowing me extra time in the Gambia to carry out some much needed follow up work and discussion with those who we seek to help and our special thanks to all those who support that work financially in our community here at Leigh and beyond.
